VANDYK is renewing the heartbeat of South Etobicoke with new mixed-use development

Toronto, Ontario – February 26, 2016 – Those who find themselves wanting the reasonable prices and breathing-room of the suburbs without giving up the proximity to the urban amenities of downtown Toronto are in luck. VANDYK group of companies has just launched a new community in the heart of South Etobicoke that offers all of the above, and more.

Backyard Neighbourhood Condos, located just north of The Queensway at Berry Road and Stephen Drive, offers a mix of convenient retail and more than 500 residential condo units situated around a central community park, creating an intimate village vibe. Neighbouring the Swansea, High Park and Roncesvalles areas, the development is minutes from the Gardiner Expy as well as the lively Lakeshore area.

Debuting as the first boutique building at Backyard Condos, “The Humberside” is a six-storey residence where traditional and modern architecture meet by combining warm brick and glass, creating a timeless design.

The building features only 96 units that range from one to two bedroom plus den suites, each with functional layouts that are expertly designed to feel even bigger than they are. VANDYK’s smart standard features, such as polished hard surface countertops and stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, are included in suites for added convenience and on-trend style.

“The Humberside” will include a designer-decorated party lounge and fitness room as well as a rooftop oasis where residents can enjoy views of the Toronto city skyline just beyond mature treetops. In warmer months, residents can partake in an outdoor workout or yoga session on the rooftop with its designated fitness area.

As the name suggests, “The Humberside” building is adjacent to the Humber River with its winding trails ideal for those with active lifestyles, or with furry friends.

“There’s so much life in the area,” says John C. Vandyk, President and CEO of VANDYK group of companies. “It’s such a unique location and it’s one of the last pieces of land like this in south Etobicoke.”

Replacing the ‘50s strip plaza that used to previously occupy the land with retail and residential buildings, VANDYK is bringing a breath of fresh air to the existing Stonegate community, which has been under the radar over the past decade.

The overall idea for this “community within a community” is to bring people together. A commercial building, called “The Shoppes at Stonegate,” injects a dose of retail activity into the area, while the 1-acre central community park—including a children’s play area—is designed to serve as a communal hub for visitors and residents alike.

VANDYK has already secured The Stonegate Community Health Centre to the second floor of the 30,000 sq.ft. commercial building. VANDYK also hopes to lease specialty shoppes and independent retailers to service the broad local demographic of growing families, retirees and young urban dwellers from the surrounding Parklawn, Queensway, and Sunnylea, Bloor West neighbourhoods.

Prices at “The Humberside” at Backyard Neighbourhood Condos start in the mid $200s. To receive the latest news and updates on the development, register today at backyardcondos.com. Registrants will receive preview pricing as well as an invitation to an exclusive Preview Opening this spring 2016.
